I've been using Pidgin for a while and I've never really had too much reason to try anything else- for the most part, it's worked, and where it hasn't, Windows Live Messenger has. Even though it sucks. Horribly. It's so bad. Seriously. If I could just find another messenger that had the same webcam support, I wouldn't even have Windows Live Messenger on my computer, which leads me to my point...
Someone mentioned something about a couple instant messengers, which made me look into them, which made me decide to look for a replacement for Pidgin. I have an AIM, MSN, Yahoo, Gmail, and Facebook, so with the exception of maybe Gmail, I need the new messenger to support those at a bare minimum. Also, I'd prefer it not to be horribly ugly, although I'm pretty notorious for accepting some "ugly" settings. (Classic theme on Windows XP, anyone? It seriously makes your computer that much faster.)
I've got about a dozen instant messengers to look through. If I find anything significant to report, I'll do so. Wish me luck!
