So I'm trying to download Skype. I figure, oh, why not....I'll just download it, create an account real quick, it'll be one of the easier pieces of software to work with, since it's so popular surely it's refined and polished and everything will be happy.
Haven't even gotten to the "download" part yet and already found a couple things to lol at. Now, I must say, the reloading of the captcha is a great idea and more need that, because on 4chan I've seen some realllly crazy recaptchas...some of which include characters that aren't even on the keyboard, and I couldn't be fucked to look up the alt code or manually find tildes and accents and shit.
Well, Skype makes you make an account before you can download the software, which I kinda dislike because I like it to be downloading while I make the account so maybe by the time I'm registered, it's done or almost done downloading. Maybe even installing, depending on how annoying the registry process is. Well, whatever. Let's make an account. The second, even smaller annoying thing I notice is that if you just CHOOSE an email address from the little list that pops up of previously used addresses, it doesn't let you even get TO the "confirm email" field...however, you can delete the m in .com and suddenly the field opens up. Replace the m and you're golden. I find it somewhat ironic that you can, however, paste your email in THAT field.
I go through the relatively painless process (I'm not bleeding yet at this point) and set up almost all the fields, including all the required ones and many of the optional ones. I click create account...and it sends me to the Create Account page. Blank. No confirmation. No error, No rejection. No red flags, no red lights, no warnings descriptions, no ANYTHING, just the create an account page. Tried logging in, it failed, so I'm guessing the account just...wasn't made...for some reason. About to try again.
Starting to think they didn't check for compatibility in Firefox. That or something about Firefox 4 really fucks them up. Flashblock is disabled so shit SHOULD be working, since I highly doubt Adblock Plus is blocking anything on here, but if this attempt doesn't work I'll try FF in safe mode, and Chrome, and finally Internet Exploder. Actually, maybe I'll just download a copy of Opera before I force myself to use IE. Heh, ok, not THAT desperate to not use IE, but still, don't let that detract from your mental image of the failure that is Internet Explorer.
HOLY FUCK that was painful. Turns out, I have an account. Somehow I didn't see the notification when I entered my email address, and I forgot I had already made an account. So I have them send an email to me with my Skype name. I look at the email. It says my username IN the email, and then says some shit about clicking here to get my Skype name. Um, hello, the shit's right fucking there. So I take a bite. I mean, I log in. Voila, my account that I've never logged into and only scarcely remember making. Ok, great, now I still need to download Skype....hrmmm.. Get Skype...WHAT THE FUCK I JUST LOGGED THE FUCK IN. -logs in again- -download magically pops up- .98MB? That's either really good news or really bad news that they have an installer that's only ONE megabyte lol...
Oh! As I suspected...it's a downloader. Yep, I think it's time for a nap, now that I'm suddenly wide awake in annoyance with Skype. Maybe I'll play some Operation 7. I don't know. Fuck Skype right now.
I don't know whether to laugh or to cry. Maybe both. Just started up Skype, and the very first thing it shows is a page to create an account.
